color trends:
Pantone We wanted to start off by mentioning Pantone's colors of the year for 2016: Rose Quartz (13-1520) and Serenity (15-3919)
Aside from these two colors we've noticed that lots of pastels and blushes are seeing a significant resurgence lately. Pantone believes that the increase in popularity of these colors is due to their calming nature in the fast-paced & stressful world that we are living in these days. In addition to these colors we also noticed trends in many other areas that are continuing: Golds, teals, ambers, deep reds, deep blues, rich purples, burnt orange, prominent grays, etc. Here are some Pantone suggested color palettes:

Materials/patterns:
There is definitely an emphasis on organic materials currently and a shift towards all things natural. In the same way that we like to know where our food is coming from, there is significant interest in where the materials we use in our daily lives are coming from. Instead of synthetics, things are shifting toward naturals. Wool instead of polyester. Molded concrete and clay instead of resins. Fur and leather instead of polyurethane. Glass instead of plastic.
Floral patterns continue to play a significant role in the world of design. Other patterns emulating natural forms are also exceedingly popular. We also noticed an increase in popularity of worldly patterns. People seem to be very interested in things that are half a world away from their everyday lives. Strong geometric patterns also continue to remain very popular.

You've heard it before, but it's true: old is the new young. There is a significant increase in baby boomers forgoing retirement and continuing to work or pursuing new business ventures. Boomers have become some of the largest influencers in style and design.
Comfort and wellness are top priorities to us in our wild and crazy lives right now. People are greening up their interiors with live plants instead of manufactured ones.
Rescuing is the new recycling. More and more people are finding ways to re-use and re-purpose furniture or materials.
That being said, we are also very interested in new things. Lots of furniture is being made with new materials such as heat reactive yarns or being manufactured via 3D printing or state of the art processes.
